Sneak Peek: Melissa + Mike

When we scheduled Melissa and Mike’s engagement session, I think we all thought it would be a perfect early fall day with just a hint of chill in the air. What we got instead was a day we would have cried for in August: 85 degrees, humid and still. We all melted a little (well, not Melissa — she looked as gorgeous and fresh at the end of our session as she did getting out of the car at the start!), but the shots were well worth it, as we wandered around the scenic trails of Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm in Falmouth. And Melissa and Mike were so much fun–relaxed and easygoing, and so so adorable. I can’t wait to work with them over this next year! Enjoy their sneak peek…there’s more to come!

Delani + Mitchell: The Engagement Session (Extended Cut)

I LOVE engagement sessions even though they come with a fair share of nerves: What will they be like? Will they like me? Will I like them? Will I be able to figure out who they are when I get to the location? or variations on those questions circle my brain endlessly in the days leading up to that first shoot. (Thankfully, I’ve loved them all so far!)

This time, at least one of those questions wasn’t worrying me: I knew right away I loved Delani. One, she has a very cool name, and two, her warm, sweet, bubbly personality had really shone through when we conducted our phone interview earlier this spring. As we got started, I quickly realized Delani could not stop giggling, which just made the session that much more relaxed, easy, and fun. She particularly enjoyed that Mitchell–quiet and calm, a perfect complement to Delani–was being forced into showing lots of PDA while I pointed a camera at the both of them, although I have to say that Mitchell did not seem to mind one bit. His love for Delani radiates every time he looks at her. In fact, by the time we arrived at Pine Point Beach for their final shots, he seemed pretty awesomely comfortable.

Afterwards, we headed to the nearest Starbucks to grab some coffee and a little get-to-know-each-other time. I think it’s SO important before I spend one of the biggest day of my clients’ lives with them for us both to feel like we’re already friends. It makes the entire process of following them around all day with a giant camera so much less stressful! Delani chatted about her work in behavioral health, and Mitchell told me a little about his work as an arborist, and the plans for the future he and Delani were shaping.

Home later to edit the shots, I realized I was smiling at my computer (this happens a lot, actually) because Delani’s smile is so infectious. I’m beyond thrilled to have been their choice of photographer, and I can’t wait to work with them capturing their marriage at Sprint Hill next May!
